Rack gears are straight bars with gear teeth running along one side that mesh with the gear teeth of a pinion. Usually, the teeth are straight (spur rack). Rack and pinion systems are sometimes used instead of trapezoidal threaded shafts and nuts to move a machine head back and forth. The spur rack, in this case, made from blue nylon, is known for its good wear resistance, low friction, and resilience. Nylon racks are often used where quieter operation and less weight are required compared to metal racks. They are ideal for converting rotary motion into linear motion.
