Description
L293D Motor Driver & Servo Shield for Arduino
The L293D Motor Driver / Servo Shield is a highly versatile and Arduino-compatible expansion shield designed for robotics and motor control projects. It supports DC motors, stepper motors, and servo motors, making it an ideal solution for mobile robots, automation systems, and mechatronics applications.
This shield can drive up to 4 DC motors or 2 stepper motors (unipolar or bipolar) along with 2 independent 5V hobby servos. DC and stepper motors are driven using dual L293D H-bridge motor driver ICs, while the servos are controlled directly via Arduino pins 9 and 10.
A built-in 74HC595 shift register expands 3 Arduino pins into 8 control lines, allowing full motor direction control while conserving I/O pins. The enable pins of the L293D are connected directly to Arduino PWM outputs for precise speed control.

Firmware & Library Support
- Arduino Stepper / Servo library with microstepping support
- Compatible with AFMotor library
- Supports AccelStepper library for acceleration and deceleration control
- Allows concurrent control of multiple stepper motors
- Works with Arduino Uno, Mega 1280, Mega 2560, Diecimila, and Duemilanove
Important Power Note
Motor power can be supplied either from the Arduino board’s DC jack or via the 2-pin EXT_PWR terminal block.
Important: When using the external power terminal, remove the PWR jumper to avoid potential damage to the shield or the Arduino board.
