Description

Digital Light Sensor Photosensitive Resistor LDR Module

This is a high-quality photosensitive sensor module/light module that detects the photosensitive resistor for Arduino. The photoresistor module detects light intensity. As the intensity of light on the photoresistor increases, the resistance of the photoresistor decreases. A built-in 10k resistor on the module can be used to build a divider circuit for measuring changes in light intensity from the photoresistor. A device such as an Arduino can be used to read the light intensity using an analog input pin.

Photo Resistor Module Connections to Arduino: Pin 1 (S) of the module connects to an Arduino analog input pin.
Arduino analog input A0 is used in the sketches below, but can be changed.
Pin 2 of the module connects to the Arduino GND pin. Pin 3 (-) of the module connects to the Arduino 5V pin.

Technical Details

  • Model Type: Light Dependent Resistor Module
  • Resistance (Ohm): 20MΩ in full darkness, 80 Ohms in full light
  • Weight (g): 1

Features

  • The photosensitive device, its photocurrent increases with the applied voltage.
  • The temperature coefficient: Photoresistors are influenced by temperature. At low temperatures, photoresistors have higher sensitivity, whereas at high temperatures, their sensitivity is lower.
  • Rated power: Refers to the rated power for a certain photoresistor line, indicating the maximum power consumed when the temperature rises. At high temperatures, its power consumption is reduced.
  • According to the spectral characteristics of the photoresistor, there are three types:
  • Ultraviolet photosensitive resistance
  • Infrared light-sensitive resistors
  • Visible photosensitive resistance

Applications :

  • Light Level Detection: Used to detect ambient light levels for automatic lighting control systems.
  • Solar Tracking: Applied in solar panels to track the sun's position for maximum energy absorption.
  • Automatic Brightness Control: Adjusts screen brightness based on surrounding light conditions in devices like smartphones or laptops.
  • Light-based Alarm Systems: Used in security systems to detect changes in light, triggering alarms for intrusions.
  • Photography and Camera Systems: Monitors light levels for automatic exposure adjustments.
  • Consumer Electronics: Integrated into devices like lamps or smart home systems to control lights based on the time of day or environmental light conditions.

Highly recommended

This is a very good photosensitive sensor. It works as expected. Note: to adjust sensitivity to light or brightness, by holding the sensor where potentiometer is towards you and the LDR is towards the left, turning the potentiometer clockwise will increase sensitivity to light, whereas turning it counter-clockwise will decrease sensitivity to light.

Works fantastic with Raspberry Pi

Using these in multiple projects. It's surprising how fast the response is for these modules.
