A DIY STEM science experiment kit for a basic model of an electric motor is an educational tool designed to help individuals, especially students, grasp the fundamental principles of electromagnetism and the basic operation of an electric motor.

Here's an overview of what you can expect from such a kit:

A coil of Wire: The kit typically includes a coil of insulated wire, which forms the core component of the motor.

Magnet(s): Small permanent magnets are provided to create the magnetic field required for motor operation.

Battery Holder: A battery holder or power source is included to provide the electrical current necessary to power the motor.

Wires and Connectors: Wires and connectors are provided to build the electrical circuit.

Base or Frame: A base or frame is included for mounting and assembling the motor components.

Installation Instructions:

Begin by wrapping the enameled wire around the plastic tube in a circular fashion. After wrapping, remove the wire from the tube and straighten it out.

Tie knots on both ends of the wire to maintain the circular shape, as shown. Use a knife to carefully scrape the insulation off both ends of the coil to expose the brass core.
Secure the iron components onto the plastic board. Next, attach the two U-shaped forks above the iron, making sure to secure the end of the battery box wire inside the U-forks.
Apply glue to affix the magnet in the center of the two iron components. Then, place the completed coil into the U-shaped forks.

Finally, place the battery in its designated location. When using the setup, rotate the coil manually using your hands, and the coil will rotate automatically.

A couple of reminders:

When inserting the iron into the plastic board, align it with the small hole on the board, and gently tap it down using pliers. If the coil deviates from its intended path during operation, you can reshape it manually into a small circle or adjust the position of the two iron components.

How It Works:

Assemble the motor according to the provided instructions by connecting the coil of wire, magnets, and power source to the base or frame.

When you complete the circuit by connecting the battery or power source, an electric current flows through the coil.

The coil becomes an electromagnet due to the current passing through it. The permanent magnets create a magnetic field around the coil.

The combination of the magnetic field and the current in the coil interacts to create a force according to the principles of electromagnetic induction.

This force causes the coil to rotate, and as it does, it continues to flip periodically due to the design of the motor, which may include a simple commutator.

The coil's continuous rotation is a basic representation of how electric motors work and illustrates the conversion of electrical energy into mechanical motion.

Educational Benefits:

These kits offer a hands-on learning experience, helping students comprehend fundamental concepts in physics, electromagnetism, and electrical circuits.

They provide a visual and tangible demonstration of how an electric motor operates, promoting understanding and curiosity.
DIY STEM experiments encourage problem-solving, critical thinking, and practical skills.

They introduce students to STEM education and inspire an interest in science and engineering.

In summary, a DIY STEM science experiment kit for a basic model of an electric motor enables individuals to construct a simple motor, providing a practical understanding of the fundamental principles of electromagnetism and electric motor operation. It serves as an engaging educational tool for fostering an interest in STEM subjects.
