Description

The DRV8825 Stepper Motor Driver with Aluminum Heat Sink is a breakout board for TI’s DRV8825 microstepping bipolar stepper motor driver. The module has a pinout and interface that are nearly identical to those of the A4988 stepper motor driver carriers, so it can be used as a higher-performance drop-in replacement for those boards in many applications.

The DRV8825 Motor Driver features adjustable current limiting, overcurrent, and overtemperature protection, and six microstep resolutions (down to 1/32-step). It operates from 8.2 – 45 V and can deliver up to approximately 1.5 A per phase without a heat sink or forced air flow (rated for up to 2.2 A per coil with sufficient additional cooling).

Features :

Microstepping Capability: Supports up to 1/32 micro-stepping, providing smooth motor control and improved precision.

Adjustable Current Control: Allows setting a maximum current output to the stepper motor, which can be adjusted using a small potentiometer. This helps prevent overheating of the stepper motors and increases their longevity.

Over-temperature Protection: Built-in protection against over-temperature, ensuring the driver shuts down when overheated, preventing damage.

Applications:

CNC Machines: The DRV8825 is commonly used to drive stepper motors in CNC routers, laser cutters, and engraving machines. The fine-tuned control offered by the micro-stepping feature ensures smooth and accurate movement of the tool head.

Robotics and Automation: Robotic Arm Control: In robotics, DRV8825 is used to control the precise movement of stepper motors for robotic arms and other automated mechanisms.

Features:

  • DRV8825 stepper motor driver module
  • 45V maximum supply voltage
  • 4 layer, 2 oz copper PCB for better heat dissipation
  • Can directly interface with 3.3V and 5V systems
  • Simple step and direction control interface

Using the Driver

Technical Details

  • Input Supply Voltage (VDC) : 8.2 ~ 42
  • Current Handling Capacity (A) : 2.2
  • Continuous Current (A) : 1.5 (per phase)
  • Logic Input (V) : 2.5 ~ 5

Physical Attributes

  • Length × Width × Height(mm) : 15 × 20 × 4

Integration with Arduino

Sample Code

Additional Details

  • Microstep resolutions: full, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, and 1/32.
  • Simple step and direction control interface
  • Six different step resolutions: full-step, half-step, 1/4-step, 1/8-step, 1/16-step, and 1/32-step
  • Adjustable current control lets you set the maximum current output with a potentiometer. Hence lets you use voltages above your stepper motor’s rated voltage to achieve higher step rates
  • Intelligent chopping control that automatically selects the correct current decay mode (fast decay or slow decay)
  • 45 V maximum supply voltage
  • Built-in regulator (no external logic voltage supply needed)
  • Can interface directly with 3.3 V and 5 V systems
  • Over-temperature thermal shutdown, over-current shutdown, and under-voltage lockout
  • Short-to-ground and shorted-load protection
  • 4-layer, 2 oz copper PCB for improved heat dissipation
  • Exposed solderable ground pad below the driver IC on the bottom of the PCB

Functional and good price

I bought these for my custom Eggbot controller board as an upgrade from the A4988 stepper drivers. They worked quite well driving some NEMA 17 stepper motors. Setting VREF was as easy as the A4988 cousins, as long as you remember that the potentiometer is in the opposite corner.I recommend putting the heat sinks on before using though. They can get quite warm with prolonged usage.

Very quiet compared to a4988

Great QUIET stepper drivers

Great for when you burn up a few drivers

New CNC, turned on the controller without my motors attached and fried a couple drivers. Oops. These came quick and work great

Quality product. Reliable Seller.

In the past, I purchased many of these cheap stepper motor controllers from a variety of sellers and got ripped up by receiving broken or cheap-quality modules that fall apart after integrating. With this seller, all of the pieces are I received were in excellent condition and the potentiometers on each piece were intact and resilient to adjustment.

Nice stepper motor driver.

They drive by stepper Motors. They do it very well.

Work great. Right price.

These stepper motors worked perfect in my SKR 1.3 for my CNC machine. One was bad in the first order, but a replacement was quickly sent and everything is working as expected.

Everything works

Exactly what I was looking for, cheap boards but the ones I received were reliable. Using them to play with some NEMA 17s
