Official Arduino Mega 2560 Rev3 Development Board (A000067)

The Official Arduino Mega 2560 Rev3 is a powerful development board based on the ATmega2560 microcontroller. It is designed for complex projects that require a large number of I/O pins, memory, and multiple serial interfaces.

The board features 54 digital input/output pins (of which 14 can be used as PWM outputs), 16 analog inputs, 4 UART hardware serial ports, a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, USB connection, power jack, ICSP header, and a reset button.

It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller. Simply connect it to a computer using a USB cable or power it with an AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started.

The Arduino Mega 2560 is compatible with most shields designed for the Arduino Uno, Duemilanove, and Diecimila. Power source selection between USB and external supply is automatic.

The board provides multiple communication options, making it suitable for communication with computers, other Arduino boards, and various microcontrollers.

Revision History & Improvements

  • Revision 2 includes a resistor pulling the 8U2 HWB line to ground for easier DFU mode entry
  • Revision 3 introduces the Arduino 1.0 pinout
  • SDA and SCL pins added near the AREF pin
  • IOREF pin allows shields to adapt to board operating voltage
  • Additional reserved pin for future compatibility
  • Stronger and improved RESET circuit
  • ATmega16U2 used instead of 8U2 as USB-to-Serial converter

Caution

The recommended input voltage range is 7 V to 12 V. Using more than 12 V may cause the onboard voltage regulator to overheat and potentially damage the board.
