Description

Description of Rain Drop Sensor Module:

Unleashing the Beauty of Nature in Your Home: Transform Your Space with Rain drop Sensor Module also known as a raindrops detection sensor module, is an electronic device designed to detect the presence of Rain or Water. These sensors are commonly used in various applications, such as weather monitoring, automatic windshield wipers in vehicles, and home automation systems.

Raindrop sensors work on different principles, but the most common type is based on the conductivity of water.

Works of Rain drop Sensor Module

Conductive Pads: Rain drop Sensor Module typically consists of two conductive pads or traces on its surface, separated by a non-conductive material. These pads can be made of metal or other conductive materials.

Electrical Resistance: In dry conditions (when there's no rain), the non-conductive material between the pads prevents them from making electrical contact, resulting in high resistance between the pads.

Rain Detection: When raindrops fall on the surface of the Module, they act as conductive bridges between the two pads, effectively reducing the resistance. The amount of water on the sensor determines the electrical conductivity and the resistance between the pads.

Signal Output: The change in resistance is measured by the sensor's circuit, and this data is then used to trigger specific actions. For example, in automotive applications, the raindrop sensor can send signals to activate windshield wipers at an appropriate speed depending on the intensity of rain.

Raindrop sensors can come in various shapes and sizes, and their sensitivity can be adjusted to detect different amounts of rainfall. Some sensors may also incorporate additional features, such as heating elements to prevent the formation of dew or ice, ensuring accurate rain detection.

It's worth noting that there are other types of rain sensors as well, such as optical rain sensors that use infrared light to detect raindrops. These sensors work by measuring the light reflection and refraction caused by raindrops on their surface.

Wiring of Rain drop Sensor Module

  • VCC: positive power supply (3-5V)
  • GND: 0V
  • DO: Digital output pin. It gives the digital output of the internal comparator circuit.
  • AO: Analog output pin. It serves to give analog signals between 0-5 Volts.

Technical Details of Rain drop Sensor Module

  • High-quality double-sided FR-04 material
  • The comparator output signal is clean. And can source up to 15mA
  • Adjustable Sensitivity for DO
  • Working voltage 3.3V-5V
  • Has a fixed bolt hole, convenient installation
  • The output format: "DO" Digital switching outputs ( 0 and 1 ) and Analog voltage output "AO"
  • Fixed bolt holes for easy installation

Soldering Job is VERY Sensitive

I had read reviews that the soldering job was not the greatest, but I was very surprised when my order came and already 2/3 of the sensors solders had snapped just in the mail. Fortunately, the third one held on and worked for all of a few minutes. Upon plugging in the sensor, it worked just fine. I then unplugged it and plugged it back in and the THIRD SOLDER SNAPPED! I guess I'll have to return this item but I would really appreciate it if the seller would just send me another. I'm a bit upset but I won't rate the seller bad as their product DOES work, but the solders are just way too sensitive.

Great for many applications !!

I used one in vehicle to Automatically turn on wipers, used one on Garden to automatically turn on Water. Third one still thinking of another application.

So far very pleased....||

I saw a mod where these boards were attached to the Wyze Sensor board to detect moisture. Didn't need the little circuit board provided, just the grid board. Moisture from the finger even will trigger the Wyze Sensor. I'm putting one under the furnace, the water heater, and RO filter to be notified of leaks.

Readily adaptable

Satisfied need for a sensor that could be placed in hard to access locations (inside stud wall) to check for moisture penetration, an application that didn't require the module that connects to the sensor for Arduino use. Simply used the provided wires to connect to an ohmmeter which indicates "infinite" or "open circuit" until a drop bridges the tracings on the sensor. Wrapped the sensor in the toe of a cotton sock to wick up moisture.

Happy

It works well.

3.3V Not compatible

I attempted to use this with an ESP32 and ESP8266 which supply 3.3V and use 3.3V logic without success. I had to use a boost converter to power and a voltage divider to bring the output data into the proper range. Do not trust that your rain sensor will work at 3.3V.
