It can also be a convenient way to connect various 3-pin sensors to a robot controller.
These Male to Male Cable Extension Cords are available in various sizes for making connections such as between RC servo controllers or RC receivers and motor controllers with an RC interface. These Servo Lead Extention comes with “JR”-style connectors. This has a male connector on one side and one female connector on another side.
