Description

Standard 20A BLDC ESC Brushless Motor Speed Controller

The Standard 20A BLDC ESC Brushless Motor Speed Controller is a compact, efficient, and programmable Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) designed for controlling three-phase brushless DC motors in drones, quadcopters, RC airplanes, helicopters, UAVs, and robotics projects. Featuring a 20A continuous current rating and 25A burst current capacity for 10 seconds, this ESC provides smooth throttle response, precise speed regulation, and reliable motor operation.

The controller features a built-in 5V 3A Battery Eliminator Circuit (BEC) for powering compatible RC receivers and servos. It supports 2S–4S LiPo/Li-ion batteries and 5–12 cell NiMH/NiCd batteries. Equipped with high-quality MOSFETs, an advanced microcontroller, efficient heat dissipation, and protection functions, the ESC is suitable for demanding RC applications. Its programmable throttle settings, three startup modes, and connecting wires make it convenient for drone assembly and aeromodelling projects.

Working Principle

The Standard 20A BLDC ESC controls the speed of a three-phase brushless DC motor by electronically switching electrical power through its MOSFET driving circuit. The onboard microcontroller receives throttle signals from an RC receiver, flight controller, or compatible ESC tester and generates switching signals for the motor windings.

Using electronic commutation and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), the ESC regulates the effective power supplied to the brushless motor. This provides smooth acceleration, stable operation, and accurate throttle control.

The integrated 5V 3A BEC converts battery voltage into a regulated 5V output for compatible receivers and servos. The low-voltage cut-off and over-temperature protection functions help reduce the risk of damage during abnormal operating conditions.

Motor Wire and ESC Connection

  • Battery Positive (+): Connect to Battery Positive (+)
  • Battery Negative (-): Connect to Battery Negative (-)
  • Motor Phase Wire A: Connect to BLDC Motor Wire 1
  • Motor Phase Wire B: Connect to BLDC Motor Wire 2
  • Motor Phase Wire C: Connect to BLDC Motor Wire 3
  • ESC Signal Wire: Connect to RC Receiver, Flight Controller, or ESC Tester Signal Output
  • BEC Positive (+5V): Regulated 5V Output for Compatible Receiver or Servos
  • ESC Ground (GND): Connect to Receiver or Flight Controller Ground
Note: To reverse motor rotation, interchange any two of the three motor phase wires. Disconnect the battery before changing motor connections. Never reverse battery polarity.
