Description
Teensy 4.0 with Soldered Headers
Teensy 4.0 features a 600MHz ARM Cortex-M7 processor on the NXP iMXRT1062 chip, making it the fastest microcontroller available today. It retains the same size and pin compatibility as the Teensy 3.2, but with improved performance and ease of use thanks to pre-soldered headers. Running at full speed, it consumes around 100mA and supports dynamic clock scaling—allowing baud rates, audio sampling, and timing functions like delay() and millis() to remain accurate even while the CPU frequency changes. A pushbutton on the On/Off pin can shut down power, and if a coin cell is connected to VBAT, the RTC will keep track of time even when powered off. It also supports overclocking beyond 600MHz for demanding applications. The Cortex-M7 brings advanced features like dual-issue superscalar execution, meaning it can execute two instructions per clock cycle, and branch prediction for faster loops and conditional code. With 512KB of Tightly Coupled Memory (TCM), the processor benefits from fast access via the ITCM (64-bit instruction) and DTCM (dual 32-bit data) buses, optimizing both instruction and data fetch. Teensyduino automatically maps most code and memory for best performance, while leaving other memory free for DMA-driven peripherals. Additionally, the Cortex-M7 includes a powerful Floating Point Unit (FPU) that supports both 32-bit float and 64-bit double operations in hardware—greatly accelerating math-intensive applications.Technical Details
