The shield connects to the Arduino board using long wire-wrap headers that pass through the shield, keeping the original pin layout intact and allowing additional shields to be stacked on top.
The latest revision exposes the Arduino 1.0 pinout and is fully compatible with Arduino Uno and Arduino Mega boards using the Ethernet library. It features a standard RJ45 Ethernet connector with an integrated line transformer and support for an optional Power over Ethernet (PoE) module.
An onboard micro-SD card slot allows storage of files for serving over the network. The micro-SD card interface is accessed using the SD library, with SS mapped to digital pin 4. Earlier revisions with a full-size SD card slot are not supported.
The shield includes an onboard reset controller to ensure the W5500 Ethernet module resets correctly on power-up. The reset button on the shield resets both the Ethernet controller and the connected Arduino board.

Official Arduino Ethernet Shield 2 (A000024)
The Official Arduino Ethernet Shield 2 allows an Arduino board to connect directly to the internet using a wired Ethernet connection.
