The TEC1-12704 40x40 mm peltier cell cooling module is a compact, high-efficiency small peltier module that uses the Peltier thermoelectric effect for reliable cooling or heating. This cooler module Kit features 127 semiconductor couples across the full 40mm × 40mm area, capable of effectively cooling and heating up to 70 °C.

With this peltier cell cooling system, one side becomes hot while the other becomes cold — allowing you to either cool down or warm up components simply by supplying power. Additionally, if properly set up, the temperature differential can be used to generate electricity.

This Peltier module performs best when the hot side is actively cooled. Once powered, the hot side warms up quickly while the cold side becomes cold fast. Without a heatsink or similar heat-dissipating solution, the unit will soon reach equilibrium and lose effectiveness. For optimal results, we recommend using a CPU heatsink or a metal block to draw away heat. In our tests, a PSU plus CPU-heatsink setup made the cold side drop so low that touching it became uncomfortable.

A small peltier module such as this acts as a compact semiconductor-based heat pump. When supplied with 12 V DC (or up to 15 V), the module transfers heat from one side to the other, creating a cold side and a hot side. Important Note: The hot side must always have a heatsink attached. Running this peltier cell cooling module for even a few seconds without a heatsink may damage it.
