The TEC1-12705 40x40 mm peltier module cooler is a compact yet powerful peltier element optimized for efficient cooling or heating. This thermoelectric cooler peltier 12v module uses 127 semiconductor couples across its full 40 mm × 40 mm area and can effectively cool or heat up to 80 °C.

When powered, the module creates a temperature differential: one side becomes hot while the other turns cold. This enables you to cool or warm components simply by switching polarity. Moreover, under optimal conditions, you can even exploit the thermal difference to recover energy.

To ensure peak performance, the hot side must be actively cooled. Without a heatsink or similar heat-dissipating solution, the module will quickly reach equilibrium and lose effectiveness. Therefore, pairing this peltier module cooler with a good CPU heatsink or metal block is highly recommended. In tests, a PSU with heatsink setup made the cold side so chilly that maintaining a finger on it became difficult.

As a quality peltier element, this module functions as a solid-state heat pump. When supplied with 12 V DC (up to 15 V), the module transfers heat from one side to the other — forming a cold side and a hot side. Important Note: The hot side MUST always have a heatsink. Running this peltier module cooler even for a few seconds without a heatsink attached may damage the module.
