DescriptionVoltage multipliers can be used to generate from a few volts for electronic appliances to millions of volts for purposes such as high-energy physics experiments and lightning safety testing. A voltage multiplier is an electrical circuit that converts AC electrical power from a lower voltage to a higher DC voltage, typically using a network of capacitors and diodes. It produces a DC multiple (2,3,4, etc) of the AC peak input voltage.
Here in the given Voltage Multiplier circuit diagram, we have made a half-wave doubler. During the negative half cycle of the Input AC, the capacitor C1 charges up to peak input voltage and during the positive half cycle, it discharges through D2 giving an output of twice of input voltage. Here D2 works as a half-wave rectifier.
